    Our semi-intensive program provides students with the basic language skills needed to communicate in an English-speaking environment. The courses concentrate on teaching English for everyday situations ranging from social encounters to business; they will help you function successfully both in the work place and in the global market.  Graduates of this program acquire sufficient English to further their education in a post-secondary institution or to function in a professional environment.

    The Semi-Intensive English program is divided into 9 levels: 1-3 Beginner, 4-6 Intermediate, and 7-9 Advanced.  Each level is 10 weeks in length. The 18 hour course week is divided into 12 hours of lectures and 6 hours of lab work. Students are placed into the level appropriate for their level of proficiency through our comprehensive placement test.

  • TOEFL Preparation – 18 or 30 hours per week

    The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is the world’s best academic English test. Over 18 million students around the globe have taken the test since its inception in 1964; in addition, more than 6,000 institutions in 110 countries now rely on TOEFL scores for student placement. Our TOEFL preparation course prepares students for the Internet Based TOEFL (IBT) test. The content of the course is based on the newest version of the TOEFL exam and reflects the language that is used in real academic situations.

    The TOEFL Preparation program is a 10 week course.  The 18 hour course week is divided into 12 hours of lectures and 6 hours of lab work.

    This program can also be taken at an accelerated intensive schedule in 6 weeks at 30 hours per week.

  • Advanced Grammar & Conversational Skills – 18 or 30 hours per week

    This program focuses on strengthening English conversational skills, while providing an in depth analysis of complex grammatical structures. By the end of this course, you will be proficient in using articles, parts of speech, expressions of quantity, time words, the progressive tense, and phrases and clauses; you will also practice using sentence variety, learning how to structure an essay according to such rhetorical modes as argument, comparison and contrast, classification and description.

    The Advanced Grammar and Conversational Skills Course is 10 weeks in length. The 18 hour course week is divided into 12 hours of lectures and 6 hours of lab work.

    This program can also be taken at an accelerated intensive schedule in 6 weeks at 30 hours per week.

  • American Discovery – 18 hours per week

    This is a one-of-a-kind program, which will provide you with a unique opportunity to study American culture. The courses bring together ideas from many academic fields and disciplines including anthropology, art history, environmental studies, history, literature, economics, sociology, gender studies and ethnic studies. American Discovery students also look outside of the classroom to answer these questions by going on study-tours of sites of significance in the Chicagoland area. The courses include such subjects as Film, Literature, Music, Ethnic Diversity and more!

    The American Discovery Program is divided into six stand alone courses: Ethnic Diversity, Film, Music, Literature, American Dream, Chicago Culture. Each course is 10 weeks in length. The 18 hour course week is divided into 12 hours of lectures and 6 hours of lab work.

    Our TEFL course is designed to equip trainees with theoretical knowledge and quality experiences to aid them in developing teaching skills for delivering successful instruction in the EFL classroom. Upon graduation you will acquire the knowledge of contemporary methodologies and practices of effectively teaching English to non-native speakers. Our  experience in teaching ESL students gives you an authentic setting to ensure your success.

    The TEFL Certificate course is a 5 week intensive course; 120 total hours, of which 20 consist of hands on classroom experience.

    International students and all non-native speakers are required to present a TOEFL score of 79 or more to qualify for admission.
